Direct, relational therapy for anxiety, burnout, relationships, trauma, and life transitions.
We support adults, teenagers, and couples across British Columbia & Alberta who are looking for therapy that is both supportive and honest.
Many clients come to counselling feeling emotionally stuck, overwhelmed by stress or relationships, disconnected from themselves or others, or uncertain about how to move forward.
Some people reach out during periods of crisis or transition, while others are looking for a space to better understand themselves, improve relationships, or create more meaningful change in their lives. We work with clients who value authenticity, reflection, and a therapeutic relationship that is both compassionate and direct.
Our work balances compassion with thoughtful challenge.
We support people of all genders, identities, and backgrounds, with particular experience working with LGBTQ+ individuals, men who may be new to therapy, and teenagers navigating school, relationships, and identity development..
Clients often seek support for anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, burnout, grief, and major life transitions.
We also work with people experiencing stress, low self-worth, emotional disconnection, identity-related concerns, communication difficulties, and the lasting effects of difficult life experiences. Therapy can provide a space to better understand patterns, strengthen relationships, and develop healthier ways of coping and moving forward.
At the heart of this work is Relational Confrontation Therapy™ (RCT), an approach developed by Andrew Simmons, MSW, RSW.
RCT is grounded in the belief that meaningful change happens through authentic human connection. Rather than simply validating problems from a distance, this approach emphasizes honest dialogue, mutual respect, and thoughtful challenge when it supports personal growth.
In practice, this means therapy that is both supportive and direct. Clients often value having a therapist who is willing to engage openly, ask difficult questions, and help examine the beliefs and patterns that may be keeping them stuck. While RCT guides the overall philosophy of the work, sessions may also draw on established therapeutic methods such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Narrative approaches when helpful.
Empowerment Counselling provides in-person therapy on the Gulf Islands and online counselling for clients across British Columbia.
Starting therapy can feel uncertain. Many people wonder what sessions will actually be like, or whether therapy will truly help.
At Empowerment Counselling, sessions are conversational, thoughtful, and collaborative. We aim to create a space where people feel safe to speak honestly about the challenges they are facing.
At the same time, therapy is not only about being heard. Through our relational approach, we may also gently challenge patterns, beliefs, or behaviours that may be keeping someone stuck.
Clients often describe this balance as both supportive and direct. The goal is to develop deeper insight, strengthen resilience, and support meaningful change in daily life.
Therapy may include exploring personal history, relationships, current stressors, and the ways people respond to difficult emotions. Over time, many clients find themselves developing greater clarity, confidence, and emotional flexibility.
Whether you prefer virtual sessions or a phone call, feel free to connect with us to ask any questions you have about our mental wellness support, personal growth counseling, or transformative men therapy.
